The National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 introduces key updates that all residential builders need to understand. At Dahlsens, we’re helping you stay ahead of the changes with practical advice, product solutions, and expert supplier insights. Here’s a quick summary of what’s new and how we can support your compliance journey.
What’s changing in NCC 2022?
NCC 2022 introduces three major areas of change for residential construction:
1. Energy efficiency
- 7-Star NatHERS energy ratings are now required for new homes.
- Whole-of-home energy budgets must include heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, and any pool or spa systems.
- Builders need to consider insulation, glazing, and energy-efficient systems early in the design process.
2. Condensation management
- Updated requirements aim to reduce condensation risk and improve occupant health.
- Key changes include tighter building seals, improved ventilation, and mandatory external ducting for exhaust systems.
3. Livable housing design
- New accessibility standards require step-free entries, wider doorways, and bathroom reinforcement for future fittings like grab rails.
- Note: adoption timelines vary by state. For example, NSW has not adopted the livable housing provisions at this time.
