Internal lining FAQs
What is an internal wall lining?
An internal wall lining is a material applied to the interior walls of a building to create a finished, visually appealing surface. It covers structural elements like framing or insulation, providing a smooth or textured surface that can be painted, wallpapered, or left as is, depending on the material. Internal wall linings are essential for creating functional, durable, and aesthetically pleasing interiors.
What are the advantages of internal wall linings?
Plasterboard offers the benefit of being affordable and easy to work with. It’s simple to cut using a Stanley knife, and the lightweight sheets make installation straightforward, typically requiring only adhesives paired with screws or nails.
With its paper-coated surface, plasterboard provides a smooth, high-quality finish. Additionally, it’s available in lengths up to 6 metres, reducing the number of joins needed for large spaces.
In contrast, fibre cement linings are more robust, though they are heavier and approximately double the cost of plasterboard. Their durability makes them highly resistant to moisture and impact damage, and they offer superior hanging strength, ideal for supporting tiles, fixtures, and picture frames.
Both plasterboard and fibre cement linings are suitable for use in both residential and commercial settings.
How long do interior wall linings typically last?
Internal wall linings aren’t exposed to the weather. Compared with external wall cladding, they’re under a lot less moisture and temperature variation stress. Plasterboard and fibre cement wall linings are used broadly in building construction and have comfortably withstood the test of time.
